Drink lots of water and clear fluids such as barley water, glucose drinks, boiled rice water and clear soup. Water intake is sufficient if the urine is clear and tongue is wet.
If vomiting, take fluids slowly. In children, start with small sips and gradually increase the amount. If vomiting occurs, rest for a while and then try again.
About 8 hours after vomiting has stopped, gradually return to a soft diet.
Avoid milk, cream and dairy products the next few days.
Consult a doctor if:
The diarrhoea or vomiting increases in frequency or amount.
The diarrhoea or vomiting does not improve after 24 hours.
The stool has blood in it.
There is decreased urination, dry mouth and lethargy.
