Stroke Risk Factors that are Not Within Your Control

Unfortunately, there are stroke risk factors that are a given. Read on to learn what these are.

Some stroke risk factors are simply not within our control. These include: 

Stroke affects people of all ages. The risk of having a stroke approximately doubles every 10 years after age 55. 


Men have a higher risk of stroke than women. The risk of stroke increases in women after menopause. 


There are some genetic causes of stroke.

If you have previously had a stroke, TIA or heart attack, you are at greater risk than someone who has not had a stroke in the past.
