Calcitonin nasal spray contains the man-made active protein called calcitonin-salmon. It is similar to a hormone in the human body that regulates calcium level.
Calcitonin nasal spray is used to treat osteoporosis in post-menopausal women when alternative treatments are not suitable. Osteoporosis is a condition which causes bones to become weak and brittle. Menopause reduces the level of certain hormones in the body thus leading to increased risk of osteoporosis.
Calcitonin nasal spray can also be used for other indications as prescribed by your doctor.
The recommended dose of Calcitonin nasal spray is 1 spray per day. Alternate the spray between the nostrils for each day.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose at the usual time. Do not take two doses to make up for the missed dose.

The symptoms of a drug allergy include one or more of the following:
Low calcium levels in your blood (Hypocalcemia)
Calcitonin nasal spray may lower the calcium levels in your blood. If you have low blood calcium before you start using Calcitonin, your calcium levels may worsen during treatment.
Symptoms of low blood calcium include numbness or tingling in your fingers, toes or around your face. If you experience any of these symptoms, you should stop your medication and see your healthcare professional immediately.
Store unopened Calcitonin nasal spray in the refrigerator between 2 - 8°C. Do not freeze.
Discard Calcitonin nasal spray 4 weeks after opening.
Once opened, you may keep the nasal spray at room temperature below 25°C, away from light and heat. Store the bottle upright to reduce risk of air bubbles. Keep this medication away from children.
Pack the nasal spray into a black trash bag and seal it tightly before throwing into the rubbish chute or bin.
